Our special guest and young female entrepreneur is Dr. Keshia Gaines!
In this interview Dr. Keshia Gaines shared lot of things which is an inspiration for many other entrepreneurs. Other than how she started her magazine, she also shared with us about the challenges faced during this journey. Dr. Keshia Gaines even shared advice to other entrepreneurs on how they can be successful in their journey.

1. Hello Dr. Keshia Gaines! Thank you for doing an interview with us. Tell us a few things about yourself that your new fans might find interesting.
Hello everyone! Thanks so much for the interview spotlight. Well, most of my info, books, magazines, and fun facts are on the Internet, but some fans think it’s pretty cool that I am left-handed. My late grandmother let me decide which hand I would like to write with when I was about 3 or 4 years old. I’m not sure why I chose to be left-handed, but it is interesting that I shoot a basketball and play golf using my right hand although I am left-handed. My favorite food is Alaskan snow crab legs and my favorite color is purple, preferably lilac which is light purple. Other than that, I love antique cars and attending antique car shows.
2. What inspired you to start your self-titled magazine “The Dr. Keshia Gaines Magazine?”
Well, I wanted to create a fun magazine that was a quick read. Most magazines are about 100 pages, but folks only browse through the articles and advertisements. I wanted to create a super-short magazine that folks would actually read. I am a really huge Oprah Winfrey fan and I patterned a lot of my magazine’s structure off of Oprah’s “O Magazine.” I put together an editorial team which included writers, editors, graphic designers, photographers, print management companies, and others. After our initial photo shoot and graphic design work, we launched our first issue in 2016. The magazine project has been popular every since!
3. The Dr. Keshia Gaines Magazine is a mixture of entertainment and information. What is the response from the readers of the magazine? Do fans like the print issues or the digital version?
Actually, the response is quite surprising. Fans from all age levels and demographics enjoy the magazine. Since the Dr. Gaines magazine includes, beauty, health, crafts, and recipes, I thought I would have more female fans than male fans, but the opposite is true. According to our magazine’s Facebook page, over 60% of our fans are male. All age demographics from the United States and other countries enjoy my famous word search puzzle too. I love to offer entertainment and educational content as well. Both the print issues and the digital versions are very popular, but many fans prefer the print version because it is easier to complete my famous word search puzzle.
4. You have a Ph.D. in educational leadership and over 15 years of experience in teaching children and being an education author. What inspired you to become an educator?
I really enjoy the education profession. Teaching children is a very fun and rewarding job that many people underestimate. This field also ties in to my strong background in the music business, acting, and entertainment. It fits my upbeat personality and I love working with people. You have to remember that teaching is both an art and a science. My students find me very entertaining therefore it is easy for them to learn academic content because of my ability to capture their attention. Since I have summers off, I use that time for photo shoots, acting gigs, community events, magazine drafting, fun hobbies, and spending time with my family.
5. Did you face any difficulties or challenges when you decided to launch your own magazine? As a female entrepreneur, how did you overcome these challenges?
Yes, I faced many difficulties and challenges! My self-titled magazine started as an idea. I quickly learned that I would need a team to assist me in putting this “dream” idea together. Luckily, I was able to create an amazing magazine team that helped make my idea a reality. When I first started the magazine project, I thought it would be very easy. I was wrong! I learned about graphic design, copyrights, print management, distribution, advertisements, photo shoots, and other legal issues and requirements. As a young female entrepreneur, I overcame my challenges by continuing to make progress towards my goal.
6. Wow! You have a long list of accomplishments. What are some of your biggest projects and accomplishments that fans appreciate the most?
I think my biggest accomplishments and projects help to build my “Dr. Gaines” brand. So far, I would say my Ph.D. from The University of Southern Mississippi, my book titled Elementary Library Lesson Plans and my two other books, numerous charity and community events, my self-titled Youtube channel, tv commercials and acting gigs, speaking events, being a licensed educator with many teaching endorsements, and The Dr. Keshia Gaines Magazine of course!
7. Would you like to share some advice for others who might want to become an educator, author, or entrepreneur?
Sure! If you would like to be an educator, author, or entrepreneur, you should do two things. 1. Create a goal. 2. Create a team for support. As long as you are making progress towards your goal, you will eventually accomplish your dream. The team can provide you with assistance, planning, as well as moral support.
