Other than her entrepreneur journey, she also shared advice for emerging entrepreneurs.
1. Hello Anna! Can you please tell us about yourself?
I am a Counsellor, Coach, Neuro Linguistic Programming Practitioner, Personal Trainer and Mind, Body Eating Coach who has lived experience in weight gain and loss who is passionate about your wellbeing. This is a mental and physical game and it’s not so much about being skinny as it is about being healthy.
I am inspired in life to empower women in all areas of life, while health and body positivity along with winning the war on weight, body image and fitness are aspects of not only my qualifications but my passion in life. I have learned from being all shapes and sizes myself that life is too short to spend it worrying about the way you look, while it is also imperative to work on your weight, body image and fitness so that you can be healthy inside and out, including in your mind.
2. What inspired you to become a published author and body positivity and weight loss specialist?
I am inspired by a deep calling and passion for helping people, especially women. I am also cognisant that by helping women, you also in turn help men and children in their lives. Being an author is something that I deep down always knew I would be and I have always had a passion for the arts and especially writing. Combining that with my qualifications and personal experience, I saw the need for women to learn more about their weight, body image and fitness to be able to be free. By losing a lot of weight myself, I learned a lot about what it’s like to go on the journey. I had been very fit and thin my entire life but when I gained weight, life seemed different and I wanted to help all women who go through that so they can embrace their true selves, love their bodies and change their lives if they want to.
3. How do you help others through Battle Babes Fitness?
I am a writer mostly and my magazines and blogs are designed to inspire change and provide insights on how I did it. I am also a coach and help women with starting out on their fitness journey, to love their bodies now no matter what shape or size they are and lose weight if they want to so they can live the way that the truly deep down are called to live. I aim to inspire through my story and encourage women to be able to live life to the fullest regardless of what they have endured, and my qualifications coupled with my skills and lived experience make for a great combination to help most women.
4. With other similar services available in the market, what makes Battle Babes Fitness and your services unique?
I have a military background and I have been through the highs and lows of weight, body image and fitness myself to be able to know what it is like out there in the warzone of the world. Battle Babes Fitness is a combination of 25 years of experience looking through the lenses of fitness, health and body image while also coupled with an essence of wellness and wellbeing to be able to find some element of life balance. I believe it is my lived experience and the fact that I beat adversity to be able to do this and overcome the odds to make a difference in the lives of women across the world.
5. As a female entrepreneur, did you face any difficulties or challenges when you decided to launch your own business? If so, how did you face the challenges?
Yes, getting started and keeping going takes resilience and strength of character. So many people think that they have to get all of their ducks lined up in a row but sometimes you have to do your due diligence while getting going and getting started now. I faced many setbacks and challenges both personally and professionally but I believe from my adversity comes the lessons and more writing for you to inspire change.
As a woman, there are additional roadblocks and challenges we face and that is something I have had to overcome for many years of my life and I continue to do so. The greatest setback I have experienced is being told I can’t do something because I am a woman when my attitude is ‘watch me and I’ll show you that I can’. I encourage all women to find their gift and calling and overcome any gender based bias that might hold them back whether that be internal obstacles or imposed obstacles because it is a people’s world where all are destined to succeed at their own true path and calling in life.
6. Do you have any advice for emerging entrepreneurs?
I would advise you to get started now and follow your dreams. So many people put things off until tomorrow, next week, next year and sometimes next decade or never. Of course, make sure you have your solid foundation to work from in all areas of life including financially but I say get out there, make waves and make your mark on the world with your own unique and innate gift.
I would also say that take your lemons and make them into sugar free lemonade. Every setback can be an opportunity to learn and can provide you with the gifts you need to succeed. I find that the way to overcome the odds that may stack up against you is to see those odds as your greatest teacher.
