Interview with Trey Harrell

1. Hello! Please tell us about yourself

Hey and Thanks for having me! Personally, I’m a Husband to my Wife, Amber, and a Dad to my two young kids. Professionally, I’m a Former Federal Prosecutor turned Charleston Estate Planning Attorney.

Prior to opening the Trey Harrell Law Office, LLC, I was fortunate enough to serve as a Special Assistant United States Attorney working with the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) task force where he worked to prosecute high level drug trafficking and firearm crimes throughout the state of South Carolina. Which was a phenomenal opportunity and allowed me to gain a vast wealth of knowledge as well as substantial firsthand experience.

My current practice as a Charleston Estate Planning Attorney focuses on drafting Wills, Power of Attorneys and other necessary estate planning documents. As a father of two small children, I truly understands the necessity of making sure wishes are upheld and family is properly provided for after a death.

On top of my Charleston Estate Planning practice, I am able to utilize the extensive experience I’ve been fortunate to gain in the areas of Personal Injury and Criminal/DUI Defense.

2. What inspired you to become an Attorney? Please share more about your journey.

This question is always funny to me. Most people give the generic response of “I wanted to help people” or “I wanted to defend the constitution” without really explaining their answer or going into detail as to how they came to that decision. Of course, those are phenomenal reasons to become an Attorney on their face but I always feel like there is a deeper story.

For me First, as cliche as it may sound, I remember seeing the movie “Time To Kill” when I was younger and thinking something like “that would be a good job”.  has   So, I guess that planted the seed but once I really looked into it and learned all the benefits of having a law degree it was a no brainer.

Additionally, being able to help folks who are at their most vulnerable and get them through a tough situation has made being a Charleston Attorney extremely gratifying.

3. How do you think you can help others as an Estate Planning Attorney?

I’m able to help others in many ways as an estate planning attorney but the most important way is conveniently helping ease the minds of parents of young children. One thing I take pride in is that my office is efficiently and swiftly my we are able to get the process done in about a week. From the time we able to meet with the clients for the free initial consultation to the execution of the documents typically only takes a week.

4. With other Estate Planning Attorneys available, what makes your services unique? Please share more about how your services are different from others.

As a father of 2 young children, it is very easy for me to put myself in the shoes of my clients and walk them through the process of getting the documents in order so that your children fully understand the stress of thinking what will happen to my children if I am to pass.

Additionally, I take pride in how easy it is to get the process started! The only thing that is necessary to get this swift and efficient process  started is to answer these 5 multiple choice questions: https://attorneyharrell.com/estate-planning-intake/

5. Did you face any difficulties or challenges when you decide to form your firm Trey Harrell Law Office, LLC? How did you face the challenges?

I faced same challenges that any other small business owner faces when they open a business. Running a small business requires a different skill set then being a Charleston Estate Planning Attorney. You face these challenges just as you face other challenges in life: you put your head down, figure it out and push forward.

6. As an attorney, would you like to share some advice for others who like to form their own firm?

The most important piece of advice would be to believe in yourself. You have already shown how smart you are when made it through law school and passed the Bar Exam. Those are to extremely stressful periods in an individuals life and if you can figure out how to get over those hurdles then you should be able how to figure out how to get your practice up and running.
