Christine Reidhead

1. Hello Christine! Please tell us about yourself.

Hi, I’m Christine Reidhead. I am a Business Professor at a Tribal College in New Mexico. I’m very involved with Native Americans, Mexico and Africa. I really respect and appreciate different languages, cultures and traditions.

I love learning and always challenging myself.

2. Would you like to share about your life as an Educator and a Humanitarian?

Life is kind of funny and unpredictable, I never thought I’d be where I’m at today. I feel very grateful and blessed to work at Navajo Technical University. I work with so many good people.

3. What inspired you to start a Nonprofit Organization, AfrikRising? Please tell us more about it.

I feel I was born with empathy. Empathy for my fellow man. I have had compassion for others my entire life, especially the less fortunate. We have been blessed to have been born and raised in the United States and live in a privileged country, with many opportunities that the majority of us take for granted. The reason we started AfrikRising was to help children in Africa have an opportunity to better their lives, improve their circumstances, and provide hope.

4. With other nonprofit organizations available, what makes AfrikRising unique? How do you help others through AfrikRising?

We are in the process of developing a school in Ghana, Africa. In the town of Obeng Yaw, Eastern Region of West Africa, the school there has a total of eighty students per classroom. These children have no desks, chalkboards, or any other materials they need to succeed, yet, they still have the same dreams as other children across the world who want to be nurses, doctors or lawyers, dreaming of a way out of poverty and changing their future. It is our goal at AfrikRising to help improve their education and provide the means necessary for a better education.

5. What are the challenges you are facing as a Humanitarian? How do you overcome such challenges?

The biggest challenge with running a nonprofit is fundraising. There are so many living in extreme poverty in the world today, it’s difficult to help everyone who needs help. But we do the best we can to help as many children as we can.

6. Do you have any advice to share with the readers of this blog?
